Final Stats

Muncie, IN - Toledo (4-15, 2-5 MAC) was swept in a doubleheader this afternoon at Ball State (13-11, 5-2) in the second and third games of a four-game weekend series. The Cardinals registered a 6-3 victory in the opener and an 11-6 triumph in the nightcap.

In the first game, it was a pitchers' duel through the first four innings as neither team could score. However, Ball State struck first in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff homer by Adam Metzler. The Cardinals added another run in the frame when BSU's Doug Boone scored on an error by sophomore RF Jarrod Resendez.

The Rockets rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth though to take the lead thanks to a pair of Cardinal errors. Senior 3B Mike Meinhart reached on an error by 3B Kiel Holman and advanced to third on Resendez's double. Junior LF J.D. Foust walked to load the bases. After sophomore C Mike Meridieth popped out, Meinhart scored on an error by catcher Doug Boone. Sophomore CF Sean Dobson then laced a two-run single to center for a 3-2 Rocket lead. Ball State rebounded though with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, keyed by Homan's three-run homer.

Sophomore Shawn Hurst (0-1) suffered the loss for the Rockets in relief.

In the second game, Toledo fell behind 9-1 after three innings with junior 2B Taylor Eckel's third-inning homer accounting for the lone Rocket run.

UT tallied three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth for the remainder of its offense. Two runs in the eighth came across on third baseman Ben Schroeder's error and redshirt freshman Dan Ruth added a run-scoring single. In the ninth, Toledo scored twice on an error by shortstop Paul Henry.

Freshman starter J.R. Duffey (0-1) took the loss for the Rockets.

The two teams will conclude their weekend series with a 1 p.m. contest tomorrow.
