TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Sophomore forward Ricardo Thomas scored 14 points, including two free
throws in overtime to put Toledo (10-13, 7-7 MAC) ahead, and the Rockets held on for a 66-62
victory over Bowling Green (19-6, 9-5 MAC) on Monday night. The win moves UT into a second-place tie in the MAC's West Division with Western Michigan (14-11, 7-7 MAC).
The Falcons had to play the final 1:18 without their best player, Keith
McLeod, who fouled out when he bumped Thomas on his drive.
Thomas made both free throws to give the Rockets a 63-62 lead.
After Bowling Green threw the ball away on its next possession, Thomas hit a 15-foot fadeaway jumper over two defenders to put Toledo up three with 43.4 seconds left.
The Falcons then missed a three-pointer, and Terry Reynolds hit one of two free
throws for the Rockets with 27.2 seconds remaining.
Bowling Green didn't score over the final 2:21 of overtime.
Len Matela and McLeod had 14 points apiece for the Falcons, who have lost
four of their last five against Toledo including three straight in Savage Hall.
Reynolds, who scored 15 points, sent the game to overtime tied at 59 on a
driving layup with 8.7 seconds left in regulation. McLeod had given the Falcons
a 59-57 lead with a three-pointer from the top of the arc with 16.6 seconds to go.
The Rockets will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 when it hosts Buffalo (11-14, 6-8 MAC). Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Savage Hall.
