TOLEDO, Ohio - The streak is over.
Miami used a tough defense and an explosive offense to defeat Toledo, 27-13, at the Glass Bowl on Saturday. The loss snapped Toledo's 17-game home winning streak.
Miami (6-3, 4-1 MAC) led 17-0 at the half and 20-0 in the third quarter before the Rockets rallied. Tight end Andrew Clarke caught a five-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter and quarterback Brian Jones scrambled for a 24-yard score early in the fourth to pull Toledo to 20-13 with 13:37 to play
But RedHawk quarterback Ben Roethlisberger marched his team 77 yards on Miami's next drive, which culminated in a 10-yard TD run by Luke Clemens.
Toledo (5-3, 3-1 MAC)had two more possessions but failed to score.
Jones finished 30-of-46 for 341 yards and led the Rockets with 68 yards
rushing. William Bratton added 67 yards on 11 carries. Donta Greene caught seven passes for 110 yards.
Roethlisberger finished 22-of-31 for 299 yards for Miami. Matt Brandt
caught eight passes for 68 yards. Roethlisberger also punted three times,
averaging 43 yards per kick.
Toledo is off next Saturday and returns to action on Nov. 9 at home vs. Central Michigan.
