MOUNT PLEASANT, MI - Chris Kaman scored 22 points and pulled down 15
rebounds to lead Central Michigan (6-9, 3-4 MAC) to a 75-61 win over Toledo (6-9, 3-3 MAC) at Rose Arena on Tuesday night.
Sophomore guard Terry Reynolds (20 pts.) and junior guard Nick Moore (season-high 19 pts.) paced UT's attack and were the only Rockets to score in double figures.
Toledo started strong by jumping out to a 19-6 advantage with 11:25 remaining in the first half. The Rockets maintained their double-digit lead and led 27-14 with 7:47 left in the half when CMU went on a 12-0 run in a two-minute span to close the gap to a single point, 27-26.
UT managed to hold onto its lead until Kaman's layup with 3:28 remaining in the half gave the Chippewas their first lead of the game.
Sophomore guard Keith Triplett answered with a jumper to give the Rockets a 34-33 lead, but CMU scored the half's final seven points for a 40-34 halftime advantage.
The Chippewas were able to get back in the game after Reynolds sat out the last 9:09 of the first half due to picking up his second foul.
In the second half, the Rockets' comeback attempt fell short as CMU never let its lead slip below five points.
The Chippewas have now won three straight games after losing seven straight earlier
this season. Also scoring in double figures for CMU was junior Chad Pleiness (17 pts.) and senior David Webber (15 pts.)
Toledo returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 with a 7:00 p.m. contest vs. Marshall at Savage Hall. The Rockets will then return to the road for games at Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Jan. 30 and Kent State on Saturday, Feb. 2.
