Toledo, OH -
Senior tailback Chester Taylor has been invited to play in the Hula Bowl in Maui, Hawaii on Feb. 2, 2002. The Hula Bowl is one of the premier post-season all-star games for college football players who expected to play professional football.
Taylor (River Rouge, MI), who ranks seventh in the nation with 142.5 rushing average, needs 640 yards to pass Wasean Tait and become Toledo's all-time leading rusher. Taylor has 3,514 yards in four seasons at UT. Tait gained 4,153 from 1993-98. Tait and Taylor played in the same backfield in Taylor's freshman season in 1998. Tait gained 625 yards that season, while Taylor had 583.
Taylor also ranks 14th in career rushing yards in the Mid-American Conference, and with 855 yards would pass Miami's Deland McCullough for No. 2 on the all-time list. The top spot is held by Miami's Travis Prentice (5,596 yards).
Taylor's 186 rushing yards vs. Minnesota on Aug. 30 marked his 18th career 100-yard game, moving him ahead of Wasean Tait (17 from 1993-98) on UT's all-time list. He also had four touchdowns against the Gophers, a career high. Taylor is UT's all-time leader with 44 TDs.
