TOLEDO, Ohio – The greatest football rivalry in the Mid-American Conference resumes when the Toledo Rockets travel to Bowling Green to face the Falcons in the annual Battle of I-75 sponsored by Fremont Federal Credit Union on Saturday, Oct. 11 (Noon/ESPNU).
The series is separated by just one game, with Toledo holding a 43-42-4 edge. The Falcons won the battle at the Glass Bowl last year, 41-26, but the Rockets have won 12 of the last 15 meetings, including six of the past seven at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
Toledo (3-2, 1-0 MAC) is coming off a 45-3 demolition of Akron in its Homecoming game on Sept. 27. The Rockets, who outgained the Zips in total offense 545-145, wasted no time in setting the tone, scoring on its first play from scrimmage and then building a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Toledo got a superlative performance from Gleason, who completed 16-of-19 passes for a career-best 84.2% completion percentage. Gleason was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week and was a Davey O'Brien "Great 8" selection for his efforts.
Defensively, Toledo put together another dominating performance, holding the Zips to just 66 yards rushing on 35 attempts, and 2.4 yards per play overall. In the first half, Akron gained just 64 yards on 35 plays.
Bowling Green (2-3, 0-1 MAC) is coming off a 35-20 loss at Ohio on Sept. 27. The Falcons are 2-0 at home under rookie head coach Eddie George, with wins over Lafayette (26-7) and Liberty (23-13).
