Box Score

YPSILANTI, MI - Toledo (19-17, 5-6 MAC) dropped a pair of games at Eastern Michigan (13-21, 10-4 MAC) today at Oestrike Stadium. The Rockets dropped a 9-3 decision in the opener before falling by a 13-11 margin in the nightcap.

In the second game, the Rockets jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and looked to be in good position.

UT scored three in the first by taking advantage of a pair of Eastern errors to plate their first two runs before freshman DH Brendan Hadley knocked in sophomore SS J.D. Foust for the Rockets' third run.

Sophomore 2B Taylor Eckel led off with a triple in the second and scored when freshman RF Sean Dobson reached on an infield error. Dobson and Miller then scored on a groundout by freshman C Mitch Maier and an EMU error on the same play.

But freshman RHP Nick Szczur (2-3) was unable to hold the lead as he struggled with his control and walked seven batters in three innings of work. The Eagles tied the game with a six-run third and took the lead for good with a three-run fourth.

The Rockets began to rally in the seventh. Senior LF Andy Stetka led off with his seventh homer of the season. Miller followed with a triple for his third extra-base hit of the game and scored on Maier's sacrifice fly.

UT put the winning run at the plate with one out in the ninth. Sophomore 1B Phil Pilewski's three-run double made the score 13-11, and Foust followed with a single to put runners on first and third. However, Hadley and junior 3B Mike Meinhart struck out to end the game.

In the first game, the Rockets fell behind 2-0 in the first before junior CF Tony Miller's RBI single brought UT with 2-1.

EMU restored its two-run cushion though in the bottom of the third and put the game away with a six-run sixth. The Eagles scored all of their runs after two were out and all the runs were unearned. A grand slam by EMU CF Greg Anglin provided the most damage to the Rockets.

UT scored its final runs of the contest in the seventh when Hadley slugged his first collegiate homer, a two-run shot to right field.

Junior Kris Barnswell (2-3) took the loss despite throwing his second complete game of the season.

The two teams will wrap up their series tomorrow afternoon at noon. The game was originally scheduled for 1:00 p.m. but was moved up due to the threat of rain in the weather forecast.
