Toledo (13-13, 3-3 MAC) dropped a 20-7 decision today to Ball State (13-13, 6-1 MAC).
With the setback, the Rockets fall two-and-a-half games behind the first-place Cardinals in the MAC West Division standings.
The Rockets started off strong in the first inning, sending eight batters to the plate and taking a 2-0 lead. Senior LF Andy Stetka led off the game with the first of his two homers on the day. Freshman C Mitch Maier added to UT's lead with an RBI single. The Rockets then loaded the bases with one out but were unable to score any more runs.
Ball State then scored three runs in the second, five in the third, and three in the fourth to take an 11-2 advantage.
Designated hitter Aaron Zehnal led the Cardinals' attack by going 4-for-6 with three homers, five runs scored and seven RBI.
Stetka (2-for-5, two runs, three RBI) led UT's offense, while Maier (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and junior DH Jay Juras (2-for-4, one run, two RBI) also recorded multiple-hit efforts for the Rockets.
Toledo returns to action on Tuesday, April 3 with a non-conference affair vs. Detroit at Scott Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
