LOUISVILLE, KY - A six-run first inning proved costly to Toledo (3-8) in its 9-6 setback today at Louisville (13-9).

The Redbirds' first six batters reached base and scored and the Rockets never recovered. Louisville also plated three runs in the fourth to stretch their margin to 9-1.

UT attempted to rally and scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and three in the eighth.

Junior RF Jay Juras and freshman C Mitch Maier each homered to lead the Rockets' attack.

Junior Ian Baltzer (0-1) took the loss for Toledo in his first start of the season. Freshman Adam Jackson and sophomore Matt Harris each pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

Louisville starter Joel Ring (2-1) hurled a complete game, scattering 12 hits to go along with 10 strikeouts.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
