ROCHESTER, MI (AP) - Dan Champagne scored 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting
Thursday night and Oakland ended a three-game losing streak with a 93-68
victory over Toledo.
The loss was the third straight for the Rockets (3-6), who had defeated the
Grizzlies (6-7) in each of their last four meetings.
Toledo's only lead was 3-2 after a three-pointer by junior guard Nick Moore. The Rockets then went more than eight minutes without a field goal as Oakland built a 19-7 lead.
A basket by Champagne gave the Grizzlies a 24-10 lead with 10:28 left in the
first half, but Toledo ran off seven straight points. That was as close as the
Rockets would get as Brad Buddenborg hit a 3-pointer and Champagne made two
free throws to push Oakland's lead back to 12 points.
Jason Rozycki's three-pointer with two seconds left in the first half gave
Oakland a 58-33 lead. The Grizzlies shot 62 percent from the field in the first
half.
Baskets by freshman guard Jim Clement brought Toledo within 19 points with 10:18
left, but Rozycki hit three straight three-pointers in an 11-0 run that stretched Oakland's
lead to 84-54.
Rozycki finished with 20 points and was 6-for-8 on 3-pointers.
Clement led Toledo with a season-high 17 points. Moore (12 pts.) and sophomore guard Keith Triplett (11 pts.) also scored in double figures for the Rockets.
Toledo returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when it travels to Kalamazoo, MI to open its Mid-American Conference campaign at Western Michigan (6-4, 0-1 MAC). Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
