Senior Deron Swanson fans career-high nine batters in six innings
TOLEDO, Ohio – Senior Deron Swanson fanned a career-high nine batters and junior Cade Baker collected four hits to propel the Toledo baseball team to an 11-1 (7 inn.) victory over UMass at Scott Park on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Rockets' three-game Mid-American Conference series vs. the Minutemen (4-4, 0-2 MAC).Â
The Rockets (5-8, 2-0 MAC) erupted for four runs in the first inning thanks to senior Cole Meyer's three-run homer, and Swanson took over from there.
A Fort Wayne, Ind. native, Swanson allowed just two hits and retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced. He exited the game after striking out the side in the sixth inning.

The Rockets will look to sweep the three-game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

"It was another really strong pitching performance for us, this time by Deron Swanson. He gave us a great start, and Michael Fliss was good in his outing too. We swung the bats like we're capable of and played good defense. It's the first weekend of MAC play and we have a chance to sweep. We need to stay focused and finish this weekend off."
