Toledo battles against two top-ranked doubles teams on Wednesday
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Toledo women's tennis team fell to No. 67 ranked Furman, 4-0, on Wednesday in Fort Myers, Fla.
Furman picked up the doubles point with a 6-1 win on the No. 2 court and a 6-2 decision on the No. 3 court. Neha Guru and Isabella Barretto were ahead of the No. 34 ranked doubles team in the country, 5-4, before their match went unfinished on the No. 1 court.
In singles play, the Paladins grabbed wins on the No. 1, 2 and 4 courts to clinch their fourth point and match victory.
Junior Gaby Rondon was ahead on the No. 6 singles court in the second set before the match went unfinished. Neha Guru and Anastasia Akuginova were both winning their second sets on the No. 3 and 5 courts, respectively, before their contests were abandoned.
Quoting Head Coach Tracy Mauntler
"Furman is probably the toughest team we've played this year. They are deep and they just keep coming at you. Unfortunately, we played the clinch format so the final three matches didn't finish. We were playing very well on all three of those. We will definitely be battle-tested when we go into the MAC season, which was the goal with my tough scheduling this year."
