The Rockets (10-10, 6-2 MAC) pushed in front, 2-1 in the third inning, but the Chippewas (8-11, 2-6 MAC) scored in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go ahead, 8-2. Toledo responded with four runs in the top of the seventh to get within two, 8-6. However, CMU opened up the game with five tallies in the bottom of the seventh and forced the run rule with five more in the eighth.

The top four of the Rockets' order – Cade Baker, Charlie Scholvin, Troy Sudbrook and Alex McCranie each supplied two-hit games. Baker scored two runs while McCranie led with two RBIs.

Starter Deron Swanson (2-3) took the loss.

"Not what I expected at all when we walked into the park today. For as well as we've played over the past couple of weeks through yesterday, today was just a bad day all around. We didn't pitch it at all, our defense wasn't great and we came up short on offense. We were in this position last week – play well and easily win on Friday, lose on Saturday and need to win on Sunday to take the series."
