Charlie Scholvin ties game with home run in ninth before CMU wins in 11 innings
Â
The Rockets (10-11, 6-3 MAC) took the early 2-0 lead and led 3-2 going into the seventh. The Chippewas (9-11, 3-6 MAC) scored once in the seventh and took the lead with two runs in the eighth. Charlie Scholvin tied the game with two outs in the ninth with a home run. After a scoreless 10th and top of the 11th, CMU delivered the game-winning RBI single with two outs. The Chippewas took 2-of-3 games in the weekend set.
Â
Toledo's offense got multi-hit bids from Troy Sudbrook, Saborn Campbell and Luke Walton. Scholvin's tying home run was his first of the season. Sudbrook tied his season high with three hits and was a home run from hitting for the cycle. He has seven multi-hit games in his last eight appearances.
Â
Freshman Hayden Frey pitched seven solid innings in his second start of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out nine batters. Michael Fliss (0-1) pitched the final 3.2 innings, and forced extras with scoreless ninth and 10th innings, but took the loss with the 11th-inning run.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"Always hurts to lose being walked off in extra innings. We had some really bad luck today. We had a guy trip on bases and not score, a collision and dropped ball allowing runs, and a ball by Sudbrook that was one inch from being the game-winning home run. But we had some bright spots. I thought Hayden Frey and Michael Fliss both threw the ball really well. I also liked our fight after giving up two runs in the bottom of the eighth. We didn't quit and Chuck Scholvin tied it up with a big two-run homer in the ninth. We are still 6-3 in MAC play and right in the hunt at the top. We have to wipe that one away and get ready for a big week of baseball."
