Toledo's defeat halts winning streak at five games
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team dropped the middle game of a three-game MAC series against Northern Illinois, falling to the Huskies, 8-3 at Scott Park on Saturday.
Â
The loss snaps the Rockets'Â (8-9, 4-1 MAC) five-game winning streak. The Huskies (10-6, 2-3 MAC) scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead and held the lead the rest of the way. Toledo cut the deficit to 6-3 in the eighth, but two more NIU runs crossed the plate in the ninth.
Â
For Toledo, Alex McCranie had a 3-for-5 game with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Charlie Scholvin scored two runs while Troy Sudbrook and Cole Cahill each supplied an RBI.
Â
Starter Deron Swanson (2-2) took the losing decision. Nate Langbehn pitched 3.0 scoreless and hitless innings.Â
Sunday's finale will decide the series winner. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"We didn't play very well today across the board. As we've been winning, we've been able to stack good at-bats together and build some innings to score. We didn't get that done today. We couldn't prevent the big inning when they got five runs in the fourth. Very disappointing day after we've played some really good baseball. The key for this group is simple – can they be consistent day-in and day-out doing the things it takes to win games. We need to come tomorrow ready to play and win the series."
