Toledo Begins Five-Game Homestand with Michigan on Tuesday

Return matchup at Fifth Third Field against Wolverines highlights five home games in next seven days

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team begins a five-game homestand with a matchup against Michigan on Tuesday, April 15 at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo. First pitch against the Wolverines will be at 6:30 p.m. The Rockets will then play Western Michigan at Scott Park for a Mid-American Conference weekend series on April 17-19, with the games set for 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Toledo will then play Oakland on Monday, April 21, with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.

All games will be streamed on ESPN+, with Tuesday's, Thursday's and next Monday's games also airing on BCSN.

Toledo (13-21, 7-11 MAC) captured its second MAC series against Eastern Michigan after taking 2-of-3 games on the road this past weekend. On Friday, Jacob Tabor earned the win with 4.1 innings, with just one run allowed, five hits and three. Brady Sasse pitched 5.0 innings on Sunday, giving up only two runs on five hits to secure his first career win. Leading the Rockets' offense last week was Troy Sudbrook, who went 7-for-16, scoring four runs, with three RBIs, a home run, and two stolen bases. Tre Mariano hit 5-for-12 with a .533 on-base percentage in the EMU series, delivering four RBIs.

The Rockets also had a 9-4 win against Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday. Yianni Skeriotis picked up his first win of the season with 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits en route to picking up his first win of the year.

The Opponents
Michigan (22-14, 8-7 Big Ten) went 2-0 in midweek contests, beating Akron 13-0 in seven innings and Oakland 8-7 in 10 innings. The Wolverines then swept the weekend series against Mount St. Mary's, winning two games in seven innings. Toledo's last matchup against Michigan was earlier in the season on March 11, 2025, with the Rockets losing a back-and-forth tilt in Ann Arbor, 6-4.

Western Michigan (13-15, 8-7 MAC) lost a midweek game against Michigan and dropped all three contests to Ball State last weekend. The Rockets last played the Broncos on March 16, 2024, with Toledo falling 15-6.

Oakland (9-28, 4-11 Horizon) fell in a midweek matchup against Michigan in 10 innings. The Golden Grizzlies then lost 2-of-3 against Milwaukee over the weekend. Toledo last faced Oakland on May 7, 2024, with the Rockets winning 14-2.

Leading Off

Toledo hosts Michigan at Fifth Third Field, the home of the AAA Toledo Mud Hens, in the first home night game of the season.
Yianni Skeriotis picked up his first win against Purdue Fort Wayne, and Jacob Tabor and Brady Sasse each picked up their first wins of the season against Eastern Michigan.

Toledo enters the week eighth in the MAC standings, 1.5 games outside of the final MAC tournament spot held by Central Michigan, while Western Michigan is in seventh, one game back.

Troy Sudbrook leads the team in batting average (.276), total bases (60), hits (37), and RBIs (21). Sudbrook had three multi-hit efforts last week.
Luke Walton is 12th in the league in walks drawn with 22, and Luke Leto is 14th with 21.
Toledo averaged 7.25 runs per game last week and scored its most runs in a MAC series this season (20) against EMU.

On the Mound and In the Field

Toledo has allowed the fewest earned runs (172) and the third-fewest hits (310) in the MAC.
The pitching staff is second in the league with a 5.48 ERA and fourth in the league with a .250 opposing batting average.
Jacob Tabor is seventh in the MAC with a 4.46 ERA and 10th in opposing batting average at .258.
Nathan Leininger is tied for fifth in the MAC in wins with three, and Logan Jones is fourth in saves, with four. Jones also tied a career high with 4.2 innings pitched, allowing just one run and striking out four in his second start of the season on Friday.
