BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team took care of business on Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of its Battle of I-75 rival Bowling Green. The victory extended the Rockets' regular-season Mid-American Conference winning streak to 17 matches. Â
UT (13-4, 6-0 MAC) defeated Bowling Green, 6-1, on March 24 and has won its last seven meetings against the Falcons.Â
Toledo picked up right where it left off in its last match with Bowling Green and took all three doubles courts to secure the team point. The Rockets won the opening set on five of the courts en route to two-set victories. Freshman
Gaby Rondon fell 6-3 to Isabelle Gaber, fought back in the second set to win by the same margin, and was down 1-4 in the tiebreaker before winning five straight games to take the match 6-4.
"The team is playing very confidently right now," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said after the sweep. "I'm proud of the way they compete and represent Toledo. Gaby did a great job of coming back after being down 1-4 in the third set. She battled and stayed mentally tough."
Sloane Teske's two wins vs. the Falcons put her firmly in the No. 2 spot in Toledo history with 156 career combined wins, trailing program leader
Cassie Alcala (169).
Toledo will host West Division opponent Northern Illinois on Friday, April 12 before heading to Ypsilanti, Mich. to face Eastern Michigan on Sunday, April 14.
