Rockets are tied for second place in MAC standings and a game ahead of the Huskies
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team will host Northern Illinois in a three-game Mid-American Conference series at Scott Park from Thursday-Saturday, March 28-30. First pitch for Thursday's and Friday's game vs. the Huskies is set for 3:00 p.m., while Saturday's contest will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday's contest can be streamed on ESPN+ and watched locally on BCSN.
The Rockets (11-13, 6-3 MAC) are currently in a three-way tie for second place in the MAC standings in terms of winning percentage with Eastern Michigan (9-14, 4-2 MAC) and Kent State (11-12, 4-2 MAC). UT is a game ahead of the Huskies (9-16, 5-4 MAC) and will need to win at least two of three games this weekend to remain in front of NIU.
LAST WEEKEND
Toledo downed Ball State, 5-2, in last Friday's series opener and followed that with a 7-5 (11 inn.) victory on Saturday. The Rockets nearly rallied to win Sunday's series finale but ended up on the short end of a 4-2 decision.
Toledo's bullpen was dominant vs. the Cardinals, posting a 0.55 ERA in 16.1 innings pitched. The Rockets allowed just three runs (one earned) and struck out 16 batters during the three-game series.
Senior Scott Mackiewicz led the Rockets' offense with a .538 batting average (7-for-13) and two doubles. Junior Caden Konczak hit .385 (5-for-13) for UT with a team-high two home runs and five RBIs. Konczak's offense came during UT's 7-5 win in Game Two, including a two-run walk-off homer in the 11th inning.
LAST TIME OUT
Junior Trey Wright hit a pair of homers and drove in a career-high eight runs to lead the Rockets to a 19-6 non-conference victory over Youngstown State at a blustery Scott Park on Tuesday.
Wright opened the scoring for the Rockets with an opposite-field grand slam in the first inning, and junior Garret Pike highlighted an eight-run fourth inning with a three-run homer to left-center. Wright slugged his second four-bagger of the day an inning later with a three-run blast over the left-center field fence.
Pike paced Toledo's 13-hit attack with three hits, with sophomore Tre Mariano and freshman Cole Cahill joining Wright with two-hit outings.
