Toledo Clobbers Bowling Green 6-1 in First Meeting of the Battle of I-75

Rockets clinch 12th consecutive home win and move to 3-0 in MAC play

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's tennis team kept its home winning streak alive with a  6-1 victory over Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon. The win is the 12th consecutive home win for the Rockets, who are 5-0 at home this year. The victory improves Toledo to 10-4, 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play.

The win is the first in the Battle of I-75 between the Rockets and Falcons, who will meet again in Bowling Green on Sunday, April 7.

After UT won the doubles point, senior Cassie Alcala put Toledo up 2-0 with a two-set victory from the top court. Senior Julia Kuszynski lost one total game in her two-set sweep over Brynn Chaffee to make it 3-0., and senior Shalini Tallamraju clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on the No. 4 court.

Sophomore Audrey Moutama made it 5-0 with her win from the No. 5 court, and senior Sloane Teske got the better of Hannah Neuman at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 7-6(3). The Falcon's only victory of the afternoon was a three-set decider from the No. 3 spot to end the match.

Alcala, Moutama, and Kuszynski all have won their last four matches, with Alcala (11-3) and Moutama (10-3) reaching the 10-win mark in singles play this weekend.

"It was good to see the team take care of business against BG today," Head Coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Julia and Audrey have been getting off the court quickly with their singles points, which really helps everyone else. They've stepped up their game since we've started MAC play."

Toledo will stay at home and host Miami this Friday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m.
