Toledo Falls in Both Ends of Doubleheader at SEMO

Four-game series will conclude with single game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Toledo baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Southeast Missouri (6-6). The Rockets (3-7) fell by a 12-0 margin in the opener before suffering a 13-3 setback in the nightcap at Capaha Field.

Senior Scott Mackiewicz paced the Rockets offensively during the twin bill with two hits. Freshman Cole Cahill provided UT with a highlight in the second game by hitting his first home run as a Rocket in his second collegiate at-bat.

Senior Grant Umberger (1-2) took the loss in Game One, while Logan Danzeisen (0-2) was tagged with the defeat in Game Two.

Toledo will wrap up its four-game series with the Redhawks with a single game tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE
  • The Redhawks took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Bryce Cannon's three-run homer.
  • SEMO added to its lead in the third on Ben Palmer's two-run homer.
  • The Redhawks added one more run in the third before putting the game out of reach by plating six runs in the fourth inning.
GAME TWO
  • SEMO exploded for seven runs in the first inning despite registering just four hits. Ty Stauss highlighted the uprising with a grand slam.
  • The Redhawks added to their lead with Shea McGahan's two-run double.
  • Cole Cahill put Toledo on the scoreboard with his first collegiate home run in his second at-bat of the season.
  • The Rockets plated the game's final run in the sixth on Trey Wright's sacrifice fly to center field.
