AKRON, Ohio – The Toledo softball team found itself on the losing end of a 4-2 final to Akron in the Mid-American Conference opener for both squads on Friday.
The game was tied 2-2 when the Zips won it with a walk-off two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Junior
Eli Enriquez connected on a team-high two hits and drove in one run, and three other Rockets collected hits. Junior
Sophia Knight went the distance against the Zips and gave up nine hits in the loss.
Toledo (9-11, 0-1 MAC) will close out the Akron series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Lee R. Jackson Softball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maris Barbato opened scoring for Toledo with an RBI single to left field in the second.
- Akron tied the game 1-1 off an RBI double from Delaney Jenkinson in the fourth.
- Madison Mikulski scored the go-ahead run off a bunt from Eli Enriquez in the fifth to put UT back out front, 2-1.
- Akron's Macy Walters' sac fly tied the game 2-2 in the fifth.
- Sophia Wygast walked off a two-run homer over the right field fence in the bottom of the seventh to end the game 4-2. Â
