Rockets Win 6-2 in First Game of Doubleheader at Akron

Toledo settles for split after falling to Zips 2-1 in 10 inning nightcap

AKRON, Ohio – The Toledo softball team split a doubleheader at Akron on Saturday, taking a 6-2 victory in the opener before falling 2-1 in the 10-inning nightcap.

Junior Kylee Graham (3-5) went the distance in both games, striking out nine batters and allowing 12 hits in 16.1 innings pitched. In the opener, she gave up five hits and struck out six in seven innings of work. She had a two-hit shutout going and a 6-0 lead when Akron scored two runs off three hits in the bottom of the fifth. But Graham put the Zips down in order in the sixth and worked out of a jam in the final frame to give UT the 6-2 victory.

In the nightcap, Toledo scored in the first inning and held the 1-0 lead until Akron tied the game in the fifth. After four more scoreless innings, the Zips walked off with an RBI double in the 10th inning, its second walk-off win of the series following Friday's contest in which they won with a walk-off homer. Graham put up a good fight, allowing just seven hits and two walks in 9.1 innings of work.

For the series, senior Riley Mohr and junior Eli Enriquez connected on five hits apiece. Mohr had one double and drove in a team-high four runs, while Enriquez stole one base to bring her season total to 18.

"We came up short this series but fought hard until the end in all three games," head coach Jessica Bracamonte said. "Really proud of Kylee and the grit she showed in the circle today. As a team, we looked and played strong overall. Looking to capitalize on more offensive opportunities moving forward, which I am confident in our ability to do."

Toledo (10-12, 1-2 MAC) will head down the road for the Battle of I-75 series at Bowling Green next Friday-Saturday, March 22-23.
