Toledo Remains Undefeated at Home with 6-1 Win over YSU; Head Coach Tracy Mauntler Picks Up Career Win No. 250

Rockets are 3-0 at home and have won 10 straight home matches since last January

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team came away with a hard-fought 6-1 victory over 2023 Horizon League Champion Youngstown State at Twos Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon. The victory was the Rockets' 10th straight at home since January of 2023, including a 3-0 record this season, and marked the 250th career win for Head Coach Tracy Mauntler in her 21 years as Toledo's leader.

"It was great to win the doubles point against Youngstown State, as they always play aggressively," Mauntler said. "There were a lot of close singles matches and we were able to pull out most of them, which is a great sign at this point in the season."

Despite the lopsided score, Toledo had its hands full with the Penguins. Three of the six singles matches went to three sets, with fifth-year senior Sloane Teske coming from behind on the No. 3 court to clinch match point (3-6, 6-4, 6-1).

Toledo (6-3) started the match winning the doubles point from the No. 1 and No. 3 courts to take the 1-0 lead going into singles play. Seniors Shalini Tallamraju and Cassie Alcala captured two-set victories at No. 4 and No. 1 singles, respectively, to set Teske up for match point. Tallamraju's singles and doubles victories put her at 101 in her career.

Senior Julia Kuszynski won the No. 6 court in two sets to push UT ahead 5-0. Youngstown State won at No. 2 singles in a super tiebreaker to avoid the sweep. Sophomore Audrey Moutama was forced into a third-set tiebreaker and won the decisive third set (7-5, 2-6, 6-4) on the No. 5 court to make the final score 6-1.

Toledo will close out its non-conference schedule in South Carolina on Mar. 5-7 for its spring break trip, facing Charleston Southern and the College of Charleston.
