CHARLESTON, SC – The Toledo women's tennis team won the doubles point but fell 5-2 to defending Big South Champion Charleston Southern on Tuesday in the first match of its spring break trip this week.
Toledo started strong with a 1-0 match lead after winning the doubles team point, but the remainder of the match was a battle with the Buccaneers. CSUÂ turned the tables and won the top three courts, all in two sets, to put itself at match point. Sophomore
Audrey Moutama won her first set 6-4 against Brenda Yoris at the No. 5 court, but the Buccaneer countered to take the second set at 6-4 and the tiebreaker at 6-2 to clinch the match for the home team.
The bottom three courts were decided in three intense sets. Senior
Shalini Tallamraju forced the tiebreaker from the No. 4 court after losing her first set to Marina Skegro 6-3 and won the match 7-5 and 7-6(4). Senior
Julia Kuszynski won her opening set 7-5, but Khyanna Singh took the second and third sets, 7-5 and 6-3, to end the match and earn the final point for CSU.
Toledo (6-4) will end its spring break trip and non-conference schedule on Thursday morning at the College of Charleston at 10:00 a.m.
