Toledo looking to win series' deciding game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

MACON, Ga. – The Toledo baseball team dropped the second game its weekend series at Mercer on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 setback to the Bears (1-1).

"We lost today, but it was a really good college baseball game," Head Coach Rob Reinstetle said. "We did some very good things, just couldn't get that big hit when we needed it. Our pitching and defense were solid. We have a great opportunity tomorrow to win this series. We'll come ready to play."

Senior Owen Jackson and junior Brayden White led Toledo (1-1) with two hits apiece.

Senior Grant Umberger allowed just two hits and fanned four batters in five innings but took the loss in his UT debut. He was hampered by hitting four batters and allowing two walks. Freshman Jacob Tabor and junior Tristan Sipple each threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for the Rockets.

The Rockets will look to win the final game of their season-opening three-game set tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mercer took a 2-0 lead on solo homers in the second and third inning.
Brayden White delivered the Rockets' first run in the fourth inning with an RBI single to right field.
Toledo evened the score at 2-2 in the top of the sixth when Garret Pike singled, advanced to second on a walk, and scored on a throwing error by the Bears' shortstop.
Mercer quickly regained the lead in bottom of the sixth by loading the bases with no outs on a walk and two hit batters. Jacob Tabor came on in relief and allowed just one run by getting a ground-ball double play ball and another groundout to end the inning.
The Bears homered again in the seventh to increase their margin to 4-2.
Toledo had its best chance to rally when Owen Jackson and White reached on one-out singles in the eighth but were left stranded.
