Toledo to Visit Kent State on Tuesday for Third Straight National TV Contest

Rockets and Golden Flashes tipping off at 7:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo (8-6, 2-0 MAC) will travel to northeast Ohio to face Kent State (8-6, 1-1 MAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 9 in its third straight nationally televised contest. The Rockets' matchup vs. the Golden Flashes will tip off at 7:00 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.

Toledo remained unbeaten in league play by rallying from 14 points down in the second half to pull out a 68-64 home win over Miami in Savage Arena on Friday night. The Rockets were down eight with 7:13 to play before going on a game-changing 14-2 run to take a 63-59 advantage at the 2:07 mark. It was the 21st consecutive win for the Rockets over Miami, a streak that dates back to the 2011-12 season.

Ra'Heim Moss paced the Rockets with 18 points, six rebounds and a career-high tying four steals. Joining Moss in double digits were Tyler Cochran (15 pts.), Dante Maddox Jr. (13 pts.) and Javan Simmons (10 pts.).

Moss is leading UT offensively with a career-high scoring mark of 15.9 ppg. Maddox ranks second with a career-high 15.1 ppg, while Cochran is averaging 12.8 ppg, a team-high 6.1 rpg and a team-best 2.3 spg. Javan Simmons is also averaging 11.8 ppg and is leading the team with a 57.4 FG% and 1.1 bpg.

Kent State has split its first two league contests, defeating Ball State, 82-69, at home before dropping a 71-69 (OT) decision at EMU. The Golden Flashes lead the MAC with 79.3 ppg, just ahead of UT's 78.6 mark that ranks third in the conference.

Chris Payton Jr. leads KSU with 15.1 ppg and 8.6 rpg. He is joined in double figures by Julian Sullinger (13.9 ppg) and VonCameron Davis (10.7 ppg).

Toledo leads 85-55. The Golden Flashes have won the last four games in the series after UT swept KSU in the 2020-21 campaign.
 
POST TOUCHES
•  Junior Ra'Heim Moss has scored in double digits in 13 of 14 games this season after scoring in double digits on 13 occasions last year.  He has now scored in double digits 40 times in his Rocket career and is tied for third in the MAC with 1.6 spg.
•  Junior Dante Maddox Jr. ranks second in team scoring with a career-high 15.1 ppg. He also is tied for sixth in the MAC with 1.4 spg and his NINE three-point field-goal attempts vs. Marshall were a career high.
•  Junior Tyler Cochran leads the MAC and ranks 26th nationally with a team-high 2.6 spg. He also leads the team with 6.2 rpg
•  Cochran has SEVEN career double-doubles following his 19-point, 12-rebound outing vs. Northern Iowa. He registered four double-doubles at NIU and two at Ball State.
•  Redshirt freshman Javan Simmons is fourth on the team with 11.8 ppg and tied his season high with 15 points vs. Marshall (Dec. 13). He has scored in double digits in 11 contests and has a team-best 57.4 FG% that ranks sixth in the MAC.
•  Simmons has shot 50 percent or better from the field in 12 of 14 games.
•  Junior Andre Lorentsson is third in the MAC with a 48.6 3PTFG% (17-of-35). Lorentsson scored a career-high 17 points (6-8 FG, 4-5 3FG) vs. New Mexico (Nov. 21).
•  Freshman Sonny Wilson registered his fourth double-digit outing of the season with 13 points at Ohio (Jan. 2). He also dished out three assists with zero turnovers against the Bobcats and leads the Rockets with a 2.1 assist/turnover ratio.
•  Freshman Sam Lewis tied his season high with 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting at Ohio (Jan. 2). He hit a pair of big three-pointers in the second half to help the Rockets hold off the Bobcats' comeback bid.
•  Lewis is 6-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from 3PT range in his first two MAC games.
 
TEAM TIDBITS
•  Toledo ranks second in the MAC with a 47.3 FG%, a 76.7 FT%, a plus-2.29 turnover margin and 7.8 spg. The Rockets rank third with 78.6 ppg.
•  Since the start of the 2020-21 season, Toledo is 50-9 (.847) in league play. The Rockets are 27-3 (.900) in MAC home games and 23-6 (.793) in MAC road games.
•  Toledo is the only MAC school to win 13 or more league games five of last six years.
•  Toledo is 3-0 in one-point games with road wins over Wright State and Oakland and a home victory over Marshall.
•  UT has posted one-point wins in two of its four road games - 78-77 at Wright State and 69-68 at Oakland.
•  Twelve of the Rockets' 14 games have been decided by 10 points or less. UT is 5-1 in games decided by 1-5 points and 2-4 in games decided by 6-10 points.
•  Toledo is 4-5 when trailing after 20 minutes. The Rockets trailed Louisiana by as many as 16 points, Miami by as many as 14 points and Oakland and Northern Iowa by eight points before rallying to win.
•  Toledo has had an eight-game win streak or longer in each of the last three years. UT registered a school-record 17-game winning streak last year, a nine-game unbeaten stretch in 2021-22 and an eight-game unblemished streak in 2020-21.
•  A win over Kent State would give UT its third three-game winning streak of the season.

ROAD WARRIORS
The Rockets are 3-1 in road games this season and have posted a 29-15 (.659) win-loss mark in road games since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. Toledo possesses a 52-35 (.598) win-loss mark on enemy courts since the start of the 2017-18 season.

ON THE HORIZON
     Toledo will return home for its next two contests vs. Ball State on Saturday, Jan. 13 and Buffalo on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Both teams will tip off in Savage Arena at 7:00 p.m.
