BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior
Pawit Sornlaksup continued his two-year singles winning streak in the first match of the season at Indiana on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Toledo men's tennis team fell 5-2 in the season-opener.
"We had our chances," head coach
Al Wermer said. "We had a lot of chances to turn the corner, but we couldn't. That being said, we can get a lot better and we will."
Sornlaksup, who is ranked as the No. 68 singles player in the country, took down Facundo Yunis in two very hard-fought games on the No. 1 singles court to win his 44
th-straight dual match, a streak that dates back to January of 2022.
Freshman
Cole Cozens trailed a set from the No. 4 court to Ilya Tiraspolsky before winning the second and third sets to secure his first win of the regular-season.
The Hoosiers won the No. 3 court and No. 5 courts to put themselves at match point, and clinched the match with a two-set win from No.70 ranked Sam Landau at the No. 2 court.
IU took the doubles team point following victories from the No.1 and No. 3 courts.
Poonthong Komolpisut and
Charlie Snow were tied at 4-4 from the No. 2 court before the match was ruled unfinished.
Toledo will continue its road trip next weekend at Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 20 before facing Butler and IUPUI in back-to-back matches on Sunday, Jan. 21.
