CHAMPAIGN, Ill. ā The Toledo men's tennis team took the court against tough competition and came up short in a 4-0 loss at Illinois on Sunday afternoon at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Pawit Sornlaksup, ranked No. 68 in the country, put his 44-match winning streak on the line vs. No. 17 Kenta Miyoshi from the No. 1 court. Sornlaksup won the first match 7-5 and was ahead 1-0 in the second set before the match was called, maintaining his streak.
"We had an uphill battle from the beginning, and a few courts we couldn't get too much traction," Head Coach
Al Wermer said. "Pawit was, predictably, going toe-to-toe with Kenta Miyoshi after winning the first set."
After winning the doubles point, Illinois won the first singles court of the afternoon, a two-set decision from the No. 2 court, and followed that with a 6-1, 6-1 victory from the No.5 court. The Fighting Illini clinched the match with another two-set victory from the No. 3 court to end the match in a 4-0 final.
