CMU handed Toledo the first point of the match on an error, but responded with nine straight points to grab a commanding 9-1 lead. The Rockets scored four of the next five to trim the deficit to five, 10-5, but would get no closer. Central Michigan went on to win the first set, 25-16, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
2nd Set (25-11, Toledo)
As dominant as CMU was in the first set, the Rockets were even better in the second set. Toledo took an 8-2 lead to kick things off, and continued to pile it on from there. The Rockets got to 20 points before the Chippewas could even get to double digits, and the final score settled at 25-11 to even the match at 1-1. UT hit .464 in the second set and held CMU to a .065 attack percentage.
Abby Erickson had seven kills in the second set, including the clinching point.
3rd Set (25-19, Toledo)
The third set started out as a back-and-forth affair, but a 7-2 run for Central Michigan gave them a 14-11 lead. Toledo wouldn't go down quietly though, and when it found itself trailing 17-16 scored seven straight points to go up 23-17. The Rockets went on to win, 25-19, and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
4th Set (27-25, Toledo)
Toledo controlled play early on, taking a 6-2 lead to open the set, and held the lead until CMU fought back to tie the score at 13-13. The Chippewas would tie the score at 16-16 and 17-17 as well, but the Rockets held onto at least a share of the lead for nearly the entire set. A kill from Erickson gave UT a 23-21 lead, but Central Michigan scored three straight to go up 24-23, the first time the Rockets had trailed at all in the fourth set. The Rockets didn't flinch though; a kill from
Taylor Alt brought about match point and a Chippewa error ended the match. Alt helped lead Toledo to victory with six kills in the fourth set.
