TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team will play seven of its next nine matches on the road, a stretch that begins with a pair of road matches at Central Michigan this weekend.
The Rockets and Chippewas will begin their weekend on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. in Mount Pleasant, Mich. before facing off again on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2:00 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Rockets opened MAC play with a pair of huge victories over Eastern Michigan at home last week.
In Thursday's five-setter, the Rockets came out firing to begin the match, winning the first set by a convincing 25-13 margin. EMU responded by winning the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-20, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Toledo captured the fourth set, 25-20, to force a decisive fifth frame, which it went on to win 15-9 to snap a five-match losing skid.
In Friday's sweep, the Rockets won the first two sets handily, but faced resistance in the third set from the Eagles. With her team facing a 23-19 deficit, Alt recorded six straight kills to will Toledo to a 25-23 victory to clinch the match. The senior outside hitter was unbelievable in the third set, registering 13 kills and hitting .684 in one of the most memorable Rocket performances in recent memory. Alt had 19 kills and hit an astounding .531 on the night, adding 10 digs for her second double-double in as many matches.
Rocket Notes
- Ryann Jaqua has 1,951 career digs entering play this weekend, most among active MAC players and seventh-most among all active players in Division I.
- Jaqua is approaching 2,000 career digs, which would make her the second Rocket to ever reach that milestone. Former player and current assistant coach Maurissa Leonard is Toledo's all-time leader in career digs with 2,260.
- Taylor Alt also ranks among the national leaders, sitting ninth in career kills/set at 3.97. That figure also ranks first in school history.
- Alt has three matches with at least 20 kills this season, the only MAC player with that many.
- Both Alt and Jaqua rank second in the MAC in their respective specialties. Alt is averaging 3.61 kills/set and Jaqua is averaging 4.92 digs/set.
- Izzy Granger has double-digit digs in four of her last six matches, including a career-high total of 20 against Oakland on Sept. 12.
- Toledo is among the stoutest teams in the MAC at the net, ranking second in the conference in blocks (2.24/set) and second in fewest blocks allowed per set (1.31).
