Armstrong helped guide the Rockets to their first MAC Championship in 2025
TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo women's volleyball assistant coach Jordan Armstrong has been promoted to assistant coach & general manager, head women's volleyball coach Brian Wright announced on Thursday.
"Jordan is a huge part of the Toledo Volleyball program and was integral in our first-ever MAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth," said Wright. "He does countless things at a high level for our program -- from training Kelsey (Smith) to being named First Team All-MAC, to overseeing academics during our second-best semester GPA in program history. These are just a couple of the many things in which Jordan takes the lead. Most importantly, his love, thoughtfulness and care for these players and this program is valued by myself as well as all of our players and staff."
Armstrong is entering his third season on Rockets' staff. In 2025, he helped Toledo win its first Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship and reach its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. During his first season on staff, Armstrong helped the Rockets earn a berth into the 2024 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC). He also served as interim head coach during the Rockets' postseason run.
"Being a Toledo Rocket and a part of this remarkable community has rewarded me in so many ways," said Armstrong. "Thank you to our amazing student-athletes for their consistent effort and dedication to growth, and by embracing who they are as individuals, which only enhances our volleyball program. Continuing to work alongside Brian, Beth (Lokken) and Trinity (Adams) each day, plus the collaboration that consistently takes place with our Student-Athlete Support Services, Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, and athletic department staff and administration, has me grateful and excited for the future of Toledo Volleyball."
Toledo has had six different players earn all-league honors since Armstrong joined UT's coaching staff. Highlighting those honorees were Taylor Alt, the first player in program history to earn five First Team All-MAC accolades, and Grace Freiberger, the first Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year in school history.
A Burnt Hills, N.Y. native, Armstrong currently serves as the MAC Representative on the AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee and is a member of the Professional Development subcommittee. He has previously received AVCA 30 Under 30 honors (2023), in addition to being named to the Advancing Beyond in Sports (ABIS) Volleyball Assistant Coaches Watch List after the 2024 season. Armstrong earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue Fort Wayne and earns his master's degree in sport administration and leadership from Akron in 2018.
