Rockets Extend Winning Streak to Seven Matches with 4-3 Triumph Over Miami

Toledo remains a perfect 6-0 in MAC play after win over RedHawks on Friday

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches and maintained its unblemished 6-0 Mid-American Conference record with a 4-3 decision over Miami on Friday afternoon.

Friday's victory marked the longest winning streak for the Rockets this season and their best start ever in conference play.

"Miami really came to play today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "I'm so proud of the gutsy singles performance we displayed against them. This was the first doubles point we lost since February, but the way our squad handled it was impressive. They have so much confidence in each other and they fight so hard for their teammates."

The match came down to the No. 6 court where Julia Kuszynski snapped a 3-3 tie with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Mayo Ushio. After winning the first set and losing the second set, Kuskynski went up 3-0 in the third and never trailed.

Toledo started out in a hole by losing the doubles point. The Rockets team of Cassie Alcala and Laura Morera captured the No. 3 court but Miami triumphed on courts  No. 1 and No. 2 to take a 1-0 match  lead into singles play.

Toledo countered with three straight singles wins, starting with Shalini Tallamraju's two-set victory at the No. 3 spot. She was followed Sloane Teske, who rallied to win her match with Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. Mariona Perez got back in the win column with a two-set victory from the No. 4 court to put Toledo ahead in the match 3-1.

The RedHawks countered with wins from the No. 1 and No. 5 courts to even the match at 3-3, ending six-match winning streaks for Alcala and Sanjana Tallamraju.

Toledo will meet Miami again next Friday, April 14 for a 1:00 p.m. match at the Miami Tennis Courts in Oxford, Ohio.
