Rockets Roll Over RedHawks for Eighth-Straight Match Win

Toledo maintains undefeated MAC record with 6-1 victory

OXFORD, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team did not hold back as it took the court vs. Miami for the second time this season and registered its eighth-straight victory with a 6-1 win over the RedHawks. The win keeps Toledo at the top of the MAC East Division standings with a 16-3 overall record and a 7-0 mark in league play.

"I am so proud of the determination and mental toughness this squad played with today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "It's really tough to beat a team twice, especially only a week apart. We focused on doubles a lot this week because we really wanted to take the first point of the match. We just dominated singles from there."

Toledo started off strong by securing the doubles point. Cassie Alcala and Laura Morera won the first court of the day from the No. 3 doubles spot. Sanjana Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski clinched the doubles team point from the No. 2 court to give Toledo an early 1-0 match lead heading into singles play.

The Rockets took care of business in singles by winning five of the six courts, four in two sets. Alcala kicked things off avenging her only conference loss of the season last week with a 6-1, 6-0 win over against Laura Rico.

Kuszynski gave UT a 3-0 lead on the No. 6 court, with Tallamraju clinching the match for the Rockets from the No. 5 court. Mariona Perez then won again at the No. 4 court. Shalini Tallamraju came back after dropping her first set by winning the next two at the No. 3 court to give Toledo a 6-0 lead.

"I am very proud of Cassie who was so incredibly focused the entire week at practice because her loss last week hurt so much," Mauntler added. "She came out of the gate hot and never looked back. Sanjana also did a great job of staying on top of her opponent from beginning to end. It was revenge time for both of them."

The RedHawks only point came from a three-set tiebreaker victory at the No. 2 court.

Toledo will head to Kalamazoo, Mich. on Sunday, April 16 for its first match of the season against Western Michigan (11-7, 2-4 MAC) at 1:00 p.m.
