TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team closed out its series vs. Akron with a pair of losses at Scott Park on Sunday afternoon. The Rockets fell 8-2 in the opening game before dropping a 3-2 decision in the series finale.
In Game 2,Â
Sophia Knight (3-6) held Akron scoreless through five innings but the Zips scored one run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to take a 3-1 lead . The Rockets scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2, but stranded runners on first and second to end the rally.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Akron held a 4-0 lead until solo homers byÂ

Jenna Kroll in the sixth closed the gap to 4-2. Akron countered with four runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 8-2, and the Rockets went down 1-2-3 in their final at bat. Erickson's homer was her fourth of the season and 10
th in her career, while Kroll's dinger was her fifth of the season and 16
th in her career.Â
Erin Hunt (8-10) threw five strikeouts and gave up five hits in defeat.Â
Toledo (11-18, 4-7) will play three games vs. Ball State in Muncie, Ind. on Friday-Saturday, April 7-8.
Game 1 – Akron 8, Toledo 2
- Akron scored a pair of runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Zips scored two more runs to double their lead in the fourth.
- Lauren Erickson answered with a solo homer to put Toledo on the board, 4-1.
- Jenna Kroll sent one out to left field to make it a 4-2 game in the sixth.
- Akron scored four runs in the seventh to make it an 8-2 game, and Toledo could not rally in their final at-bat.
Game 2 – Akron 3, Toledo 2
- Riley Mohr hit an RBI single to give Toledo a 1-0 lead in the first.
- Akron tied the game with a single run in the sixth.
- Abigail Scheller hit a two-run homer in the seventh to put Akron in the lead, 3-1.
- Aubrey Reed led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and later reached home with two outs on an Akron error but the rally ended when pinch hitter Maris Barbato flied to left.
