OXFORD, Ohio – SeniorÂ
Erin Hunt threw a two-hit shutout to lead Toledo to a 2-0 victory at Miami on Wednesday evening in the opening game of a three-game series with the reigning 2022 MAC Champions at the Miami Softball Stadium.
"I am proud of how we came out today," head coach
Jessica Bracamonte said. "We managed the highs and lows of the game extremely well, and I believe that was the difference maker. Erin did a great job setting the tone for us early and going the distance. Sidney made a critical double play for us in the seventh. There are lots of great things to draw from going into tomorrow."
Hunt (8-7) allowed just two baserunners through the first five innings, then got out of jams in the final two frames to earn her fourth shutout of the season and 14th of her career. It was Hunt's 55th career win, living her one win shy of fourth place on Toledo's all-time list behind Desiree Abrego, who collected 56 wins from 1993-96.
Toledo scored both of its runs in the second inning on a Miami error and a fielder's choice. Senior designated playerÂ
Aubrey Reed went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored and one stolen base.
Toledo (11-13, 4-2 MAC) and Miami (14-13, 2-4 MAC) will play a doubleheader tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
