TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team won its fourth-straight match Saturday after defeating Oakland 7-0. The Rockets improve to 5-1, 3-1 at home in their second sweep of the season.
"It was a businesslike effort today," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "Very tough playing to not drop a set in singles."
Toledo started the day by securing the doubles point, collecting wins on the No. 2 court from
Sanjana Tallamraju and
Julia Kuszynski, and then securing the doubles point from the No. 1 court by
Sloane Teske and
Mariona Perez. Action continued on the No. 3 court after the point was clinched, with Oakland picking up its only win of the day.
Toledo was flawless in single play, sweeping the Golden Grizzlies in two sets on all six courts. Teske put the Rockets on the board first with a quick two-set victory on the No. 2 court, marking her ninth-straight singles win. Kuszynski won on the No. 5 court and Tallamraju won on the No. 6 court, to ultimately clinching the match for the team. Cassie Alcala won at the top court, extending her winning streak to 12 matches. Perez won on the No. 4 court, surviving a tight 6-4 second set for the match win. Junior
Shalini Tallamraju closed out the day with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory on the No. 3 court to complete the Rockets' sweep.
Toledo will begin a six-match road stretch next weekend in Chicago, Ill. with back-to-back matches vs UIC and DePaul. First serve will take place at 1:00 p.m. between the Rockets and UIC on Friday, Feb. 17, followed by a 2:30 p.m. battle at DePaul a day later.
