CHICAGO, Ill. – The Toledo women's tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches on Friday afternoon, with a 6-1 victory over UIC in Chicago, Ill. The Rockets' win was their third consecutive road triumph and improves their overall record to 6-1.
"This was a great team win," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "The players were really focused and ready to compete today. UIC pushed us in many spots, but we responded so well in every occasion."
Toledo secured the doubles point with wins from the No. 2 court with
Julia Kuszynski and
Sanjana Tallamraju and No. 3 courts with
Cassie Alcala and
Shalini Tallamraju to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Rockets did not let up in singles play, winning five of the six courts. Alcala,
Sloane Teske, Perez, and
Sanjana Tallamraju won their respective courts in two sets.
Shalini Tallamraju won her opening set 7-5, fell in the second set 6-4, and won the deciding set 10-5 for her fourth-straight singles win from the No. 3 court.
Alcala's win at the No. 1 court puts her winning streak at 13-straight and Teske's victory from the No. 2 court extends her streak to 10 matches. Also notable is that Perez (No.4) now has five victories in a row and
Sanjana Tallamraju (No. 6) has won her last four matches.
The only point the Flames were able to take from the Rockets was a two-set final from the No. 5 court.
Toledo will be back in Chicago at the XC Tennis Village on Saturday afternoon to take on DePaul. First service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (EST).
