Rockets Drop Doubleheader in Louisiana on Saturday

Toledo playing its final game of Mardi Gras Mambo on Sunday afternoon

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Toledo softball team tried to rally in each of its games vs. Houston Christian and Nicholls State on Saturday, but dropped both games at the Mardi Gras Mambo. The Rockets fell 7-4 to the Huskies and 5-2 to the Colonels.

Toledo led 2-0 in its first inning of action of the day until Houston Christian cut the lead in half in the third inning and scored five in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. The Rockets added a run in the bottom of the fifth on Macey Moore's RBI single but stranded three runners and still trailed 6-3. Jenna Kroll tripled in a run in the seventh, but it was not enough to close the gap.

Erin Hunt started off the first game of the afternoon before Madison McKay came in as relief in the fifth.

Nicholls State scored one run in the second, two in the third, and one in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead in the Rockets' second game of the day. Moore again came up big when her RBI triple in the sixth inning plated Madison Mikulski for the Rockets' first run. Toledo loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but couldn't do any more damage after scoring on a fielder's choice.

Sophia Knight went the distance in the nightcap, allowing five runs in the loss.
