YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Toledo softball team opened its second week of competition at the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, La. on Friday evening with a pair of losses, a 4-2 defeat to Louisiana Tech and a 10-0 setback in the nightcap to Southeastern Louisiana.
In the first game of the afternoon, Toledo held a 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning when Louisiana Tech scored three runs to take its first lead of the game.
Lexi Eckman singled with two outs in the top of the seventh but a pop out to the third baseman ended the rally.
Senior
Erin Hunt recorded recorded 11 strikeouts and gave up six hits in going the distance vs. the Lady Techsters. She also registered her 500th strikeout as Rocket in the first inning.Â
In the nightcap, tournament host Southeastern Louisiana broke a 0-0 stalemate in the bottom of the third with five runs. The Lions added five runs in the fifth inning to make the score 10-0 and end the game by run-rule.
Sophia Knight went 4.0 innings against SLU, giving up seven runs and striking out one.
Madison McKay came in as relief vs. the Lions and gave up one run.
Toledo (2-4) will play two games tomorrow starting with a 3:00 p.m. game vs. Houston Christian (6-2) and a 5:00 p.m. game vs. Nicholls State.
Game 1 – Louisiana Tech 4, Toledo 2
- In the bottom of the first, Kylie Neel struck out swinging, accounting for Erin Hunt's 500th career strikeout.
- Madison Mikulski and Leah Tipple each scored in the top of the fourth, both unearned runs off errors, to give Toledo a 2-0 lead.
- LaTech got an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to get onto the board and trail the Rockets 2-1.
- The Lady Techsters had bases loaded when Hunt hit a batter to bring around the tying run with no outs. The next two batters struck out before two runs scored on an Amanda Gonzalez single and a throwing error to give La Tech a 4-2 lead.Â
- Lexi Eckman singled to left field with two outs in the top of the seventh, but the final batter popped one out to third base to end the game.
Game 2 – Southeastern Louisiana 10, Toledo 0
- Southeastern Louisiana scored five runs in the third off a two-run single, a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer to left field.
- Madison Mikulski got in scoring position with one out in the top of the fifth but was left stranded.
- In the fifth inning, SLU scored two runs off a single and three more on a three-run dinger to end the game by a run-rule.
