Rockets Destroy Blue Demons for Sixth-Straight Match Win

Toledo picks up back-to-back victories in Chicago vs. UIC and DePaul to remain perfect on the road this season

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Toledo women's tennis team ended its Chicago trip with a 7-0 sweep, the third shutout of the season, vs. DePaul on Saturday afternoon at the XC Tennis Village. The Rockets improve to 6-1 and remain a perfect 4-0 on the road.

"This was the most complete match we've played from start to finish," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "The energy was electric to start doubles and it continued  through the final singles match. DePaul is going to win a lot in the Big East. And so to go into their home and take every single court, I feel like our team really sent a message today."

For its fourth-straight match, Toledo won the doubles point, today from two 6-4 decisions by Julia Kuszynski and Sanjana Tallamraju at the No. 2 court, and clinched the point from Cassie Alcala with Shalini Tallamraju at from the No. 3 court.

Sloane Teske, Shalini Tallamraju and Sanjana Tallamraju secured the three singles matches, all in two sets, to put Toledo ahead in the match 4-0 vs. DePaul. Sanjana Tallamraju (No. 5) has won her last five matches after taking down Valentina Martin. Teske took down Hannah Smith at the No. 2 spot, to earn her 11-straight singles win. Shalini Tallamraju defended the No. 3 court for the sixth-straight time this season, ultimately clinching the match for the Rockets with a victory over against Eleanor Nobbs.  Mariona Perez picked up a two-set victory from the No. 4 court to also mark her sixth-straight victory.

Alcala had a huge 6-0 comeback in the second set after dropping her first set, 6-3, to Yuliya Kizelbasheva at the No. 1 court. Alcala put the match away in the third set, 6-1, to keep her 14-match winning streak alive.

Julia Kuszynski forced a third set to decide the sweep over DePaul from the No. 6 court. Kuszynksi lost her first set to Greta Carbobe, 6-3, but came back in the second set to win by the same 6-3 margin, and eventually put the match away in the super tiebreaker, 10-7.
