Rocket seniors fire one-under under par 71s in opening round
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Seniors Barend Botha and Jamie Tofte Nielsen each fired one-under par 71s on Sunday to lead the Toledo men's golf team in the opening round of East Tennessee State's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Toledo is in 14th place in the team standings after carding a six-over par 294 at the par-72, 7,118-yard Blackthorn Club at the Ridges.
Botha and Nielsen both tallied a team-high three birdies in their rounds with both opening the day with a birdie on their first hole.
The remainder of the Rockets' lineup included senior NJ Botha (T-58th/75), senior Palmer Yenrick (T-75th/77) and sophomore Mads Jensen (T-82nd/78). Junior CJ van Wyk is competing as an individual and tied for 75th place with a five-over par 77.
Furman sits atop the team standings with a 10-under par 278, while the Buccaneers' Mats Ege shot a tournament-record 10-under par 62 to lead all individuals.
The Rockets will begin the second round tomorrow with tee times beginning at 9:20 a.m. off the 10th hole.
