Sophomore finishes ahead of 11 individuals ranked among Top 50 in nation at Pauma Valley Invitational
TOLEDO, Ohio - Sophomore Bence Bertényi was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week on Saturday. It marked the second straight tournament a Rocket earned the weekly conference honor.
A Budapest, Hungary native, Bertényi tied for 22nd place with a one-under par 212 (72-70-70) to lead the Rockets at the Pauma Valley Invitational earlier this week. Bertenyi tied for the team lead with 11 birdies with each of them coming in the final two rounds. He finished ahead of five individuals ranked in the Top 20 and 11 ranked in the Top 50.
The Rockets tied for 14th place in the team standings but just finished just 10 strokes behind No. 10 Texas Tech and five behind No. 28 San Diego State. The tournament field consisted of six of the nation's top 10 teams and nine of the top 20.
Bertényi and the Rockets will return to action with a trip to North Carolina for UNCW's Seahawk Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, March 30-31.
