Senior NJ Botha leads way for Rockets today with four-under par 68
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Senior NJ Botha fired a season-best four-under par 68 to help the Toledo men's golf team jump up five spots in Monday's second round of East Tennessee State's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Toledo moved into a ninth-place tie in the team standings after shooting a one-under par 287 today at the par-72, 7,118-yard Blackthorn Club at the Ridges.
Botha, who is tied for 15th place individually at one-under par 143, was hot at the end of his front nine and back nine. He registered three straight birdies to get to the turn at two-under par and proceeded to birdie three of his final four holes to finish his day at four-under par.
Senior Jamie Tofte Nielsen is tied for 12th place and leading the Rockets with a two-under par 142 after carding his second-straight one-under 71. He tallied five birdies on the day, including four in his final eight holes.
Rounding out the Rockets' lineup is senior Barend Botha (T-45th/71-76=147), sophomore Mads Jensen (T-71st/78-72=150) and senior Palmer Yenrick (T-81st/77-76=153). Junior CJ van Wyk is competing as an individual and tied for 81st place with a nine-over par 153 (77-76).
Host East Tennessee State leads the 15-team field at 13-under par 563, three strokes ahead of second-place Charlotte. The Buccaneers' Mats Ege holds a six-shot lead on the individual leaderboard with a 12-under par 132 (62-70).
The Rockets will begin the third and final round tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. off the 10th hole.
