TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2022-21 season with a combined 11-1 record over UIC and Chicago on the opening day of its Toledo Rocket Invite at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts on Friday.

In doubles competition, the Rockets won two of three matches vs. UIC. Duo Sloane Teske and Cassie Alcala won the top court in a 6-4 decision, while Laura Morera and partner Valentina Martin from DePaul won the third court in an intense 7-6(5) final.

The Rockets had 10 singles matches on deck for the opening day and won all 10 matchups against UIC and Chicago. Alcala, Teske and Morera each won their two matches of the day in two sets.

Against UIC, both Shalini Tallamraju and Mariona Perez each won their opening sets. Both fell behind in the second set, and each won the third set tiebreaker for the match wins.

Perez won her second match of the day in two sets, while Tallamraju dropped her first set, then won the second and third set tiebreaker for the match.

Competition concludes on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. with doubles matches between Toledo vs. UIC, and Chicago vs. DePaul.
