YPSILANTI, Mich. – Toledo women's tennis kicked off the fall season with the Block E Invitational this past weekend, winning 24 matches, the most of any school in the tournament.
The Rockets finished the event with a 16-4 team singles record and an 8-2 team doubles record. Every Rocket that played won either a singles or doubles group.
The event was hosted by Eastern Michigan and was made up of a five-team pool that also included Oakland, Youngstown State and Bowling Green. The teams were split up into nine singles groups and four doubles groups.
The Rockets won five of the seven singles groups that they competed in with undefeated first-place finishes from freshmen
Anastasia Akuginova,
Isabella Barretto, and
Iva Jankovic, and sophomoresÂ
Neha Guru and
JJ Scholten.
Junior
Jone Ibanez and sophomore
Annika Munson came away with a 3-0 first-place doubles finish, scoring 6-3 triumphs over Oakland, Youngstown State and Bowling Green.
Iva Jankovic also won a mixed doubles match with Youngstown State sophomore Sarah Partida over Bowling Green and Oakland, giving her a team-leading 3-0 tournament record.
