TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo scored three runs in the eighth inning to snap a 2-2 tie en route to a 5-3 non-conference victory over Austin Peay (16-27) on Friday afternoon at Scott Park. The victory extended the Rockets' winning streak to eight games and improved their record to 23-17 overall.

Junior Cal McAninch (2-2) picked up the victory for Toledo with four scoreless innings of one-hit relief. He entered the contest with the bases loaded and nobody out in the fifth inning and allowed just one run to keep the score tied at 2-2.

Redshirt freshman Patrick Dillon pitched the ninth inning to earn his first save. Junior Kyle Jones started the contest and allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) in 4.0 innings.

"We played a really solid game today," Head Coach Rob Reinstetle said. "Kyle Jones battled all day, but it was our bullpen that carried the day."

Freshman Caden Konczak, junior Mason Sykes, sophomore Jeron Williams and redshirt freshman Trey Wright each tallied two hits as part of Toledo's nine-hit attack.

"The conditions were tough with the wind blowing straight in all day," Reinstetle said. "The box score doesn't indicate it, but this was one of our better days swinging the bats. We had numerous hard-hit balls that found a glove. At the end of the day, we did what we needed to and found a way to win. We need to come back tomorrow and keep this thing rolling."

Konczak put Toledo ahead with an infield single in the eighth, and Wright provided a pair of insurance runs with a two-run double down the left-field line later in the frame.

The two teams will resume their three-game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Scott Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Governors took advantage of a Rocket error to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third.
• The Rockets quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Jeron Willams' single to right-center evened the score at 1-1, and sophomore Scott Mackiewicz's sacrifice fly put Toledo in front.
• Austin Peay knotted the score at 2-2 in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
• Caden Konczak singled off the glove of the Governors' pitcher to score Mason Sykes with the go-ahead run. Trey Wright's opposite-field double down the left-field line plated Toledo's final two runs.
