PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team ended the 2021-22 regular season with a dominating 7-0 sweep vs. I-75 rival Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon. The Rockets picked up their 17th-win of the season, a program record, and move to 17-6 overall with a 7-3 mark in Mid-American Conference play.
Toledo came out hot in doubles play, winning the team point with a pair of 6-3 victories from the No. 1 and No. 3 courts.
The Rockets did not let up in singles play, with five of their six wins coming in two sets. Sophomore
Cassie Alcala won on the top court for her fourth-straight singles win. Sophomore
Julia Kuszynski won her first set from the No. 3 court and won by retirement at 4-0 in the second set. Sophomore
Shalini Tallamraju clinched the match for the Rockets from the No. 4 court in a 6-1, 6-2 final. Seniors
Patricia Panta (court 5) and
Eileen Carney (court 6) also won their respective courts by the same 6-1, 6-2 margin.
Sloane Teske fell 1-6 in her first set and came back in the second set 6-2 and won the No. 2 court 6-2 in the third set.
"It was such a dominant effort from start to finish!" head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "I'm so proud of the team and the way they competed today. We are exactly where we need to be heading into the MAC tourney."
Toledo will head to the MAC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament next weekend, with seeding not yet determined. The tournament is hosted by last season's regular season champion Ball State (16-4, 7-2) on Saturday-Sunday, April 30-May 1 in Muncie, Ind.
