TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team opened its weekend with a 6-1 victory Mid-American Conference opponent Buffalo at Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Friday. With the win, the Rockets advanced to 10-6, 3-1 in MAC play.
The Rockets captured the doubles point from close victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts.
Pawit Sornlaksup and Mark Galic took the top court in an intense 7-6(6) battle, while
Cole Shoults and
Krzysztof Wetoszka clinched the point with a 6-4 win on the No. 2 court.
Toledo carried over the winning momentum into singles action. Four of the Rockets victories came in two sets, while
Adam Kovac came back from losing his first set on the No. 2 court to take a 5-7, 7-6(7), 10-6 victory.Â
Sornlaksup has now won his last 14 singles matches, all from the No. 1 court, and is 4-0 vs. conference opponents. As a duo, Dornlaksup and Galic have won their last seven matches from the No. 1 court.
"I was impressed today with our guys' toughness because Buffalo played very hard and our team kept their hands on the wheel," head coach
Al Wermer said. "We made the adjustments and persevered. "
UT will be back at Shadow Valley this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. vs. Binghamton.
