TOLEDO, Ohio – For the first time this season, the Toledo baseball team will be playing on its home field when it hosts Miami for a four-game series at Scott Park this weekend.
Â
The schedule for this weekend's series between the Rockets and RedHawks has been altered to accommodate potential inclement weather. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday and a 3:00 p.m. game on Sunday. Friday's twin bill will open with a seven-inning game and will be followed by a nine-inning game. Sunday's game will be televised locally on BCSN and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
Â
Fans looking to come out and catch the home opener can take advantage of "$5 Friday"; the first 25 fans through the gates will receive a $5 coupon to Buffalo Wild Wings. Also, tickets purchased for games on Friday and Saturday are good for both the baseball and softball games as a part of Rocket Weekend.
Â
Last Time Out
For the second straight weekend, Toledo split a doubleheader against a MAC opponent after going 2-2 at Western Michigan.
Â
Friday and Saturday's games were wiped out due to bad weather, so the Rockets and Broncos played doubleheaders on Sunday and Monday. WMU captured both games of Sunday's doubleheader, while UT won both games on Monday.
Â
The Rockets used the long ball to take an early lead in the first game, slugging three home runs to take a 6-1 advantage. The Broncos rallied in the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back homers, but UT escaped with a 7-5 win. Sophomore Scott Mackiewicz, senior John Servello, and junior Mason Sykes all blasted homers for Toledo in the first game. Senior Jordan Power earned the win with five solid innings on the mound and junior Cal McAninch earned his second save of the season.
Â
In game two, Toledo took advantage of several WMU unforced errors to build an insurmountable lead. The Rockets scored 11 runs over the sixth and seventh innings by using four bases-loaded walks, a bases-loaded HBP, and three wild pitches.
