MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The University of Toledo women's tennis team opened the weekend with a 4-3 victory over West Virginia in Morgantown, W. Va. on Saturday. The win was the first ever for the Rockets over a Big 12 opponent.
Toledo won the doubles team point thanks to victories from
Cassie Alcala and
Julia Kuszynski on the No. 1 court and
Sloane Teske and
Patricia Panta on the No. 2 court. Alcala and Kuszynski won by a 6-1 margin while Teske and Panta won by retirement.
Teske won in two sets on the No.2 courts while
Eileen Carney won by default on the No. 6 court. The Mountaineers claimed victories in two sets on the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 courts.
Patricia Panta won her match in two sets (7-5, 6-2) over Pei-Ju Hsieh on the No. 5 court and clinched the match point for the Rockets.

"This is a huge win for the program," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "I'm so proud of everyone on the team for contributing to this victory. These girls love to compete but even more, they love to compete for each other. They are better because of each other."
Toledo (8-2) will be back on the court Sunday at 9:00 a.m. vs. George Washington at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts.
